Rhythm without boundaries
Michael Longoria is an Austin-based drummer and percussionist with more than 30 years as a performing, touring, and studio musician. Born and raised on the Texas-Mexico border in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, Michael grew up immersed in the music and culture of La Frontera, influences that continue to shape his distinctive approach to rhythm.
Since beginning his professional touring career with Texas legend Joe “King” Carrasco in 1994, Michael has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally with artists including Bob Schneider, Kim Richey, Patty Griffin, JaRon Marshall, and others. His television appearances include Austin City Limits, Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
Moving fluidly through Jazz, Latin and Afro-Caribbean Music, Hip-Hop, R&B, Neo-Soul, World Music, Americana, and Rock, Michael has developed a distinctive and highly versatile musical voice. A lifelong student of rhythm, he approaches music with curiosity and an openness to learning from the traditions, cultures, and musicians around him. Collaboration is central to that approach - connecting people, ideas, and musical traditions through the groove.
